The South Carolina Transportation Department named the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (CMRTA) the 2005 Most Improved Transit System.

The honor was announced at the Transportation Association of South Carolina’s annual conference.

The award recognizes public transit systems that undergo improvements in service performance, revenue increases and community involvement.

Since 2003, annual system ridership at CMRTA has increased 30%, from 2.1 million riders in 2003 to 2.7 million in 2005.
