The government of Ontario introduced legislation in late April to create a regional transportation authority for Toronto. Creation of the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority (GTTA) will integrate planning for local transit, GO Transit and major roads, and new transit infrastructure for the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton, as well as implement a new fare card system among nine transit agencies. The GTTA is one component of Move Ontario, a new $1.2 billion investment in public transit and roads and bridges included in Ontario Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty's 2006 budget.
