Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta has tendered his resignation to President Bush, effective July 7. Mineta, who spent more than five years as transportation secretary, also served as Commerce secretary for President Clinton, a U.S. House representative for 20 years, and oversaw the creation of the Transportation Security Administration following the Sept. 11 attacks. Mineta was plagued by back problems during his tenure and spent months working from home and the hospital; however, one of his spokesman said that he is simply “moving on to pursue other interests,” according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
