President Bush has chosen Mary Peters to succeed Norman Mineta as transportation secretary, according to the Associated Press. Previously, Peters was chief of the Federal Highway Administration from 2001 to 2005 and spent more than 15 years with the Arizona Department of Transportation. Since November, she has served as national director for transportation policy and consulting in the Phoenix office of HDR Inc. The Senate must still confirm Peters' nomination.
