West Covina, Calif.-based Foothill Transit got the green light for its proposed bus rapid transit service, set to launch in March 2007. The new Silver Streak bus service will spend about 5% of its total trip on surface streets, using freeways and HOV lanes for quick commuting between stops. The 60-foot articulated buses, manufactured by North American Bus Industries, will bring customers to major station stops in the region including downtown Los Angeles. Other features of the state-of-the-art vehicles include automatic passenger counters, AVL/GPS technology, onboard security cameras with high definition digital recording, automated station stop announcements and station bus arrival displays.
