The Transportation Management Systems division of Orbital Sciences Corp. signed a $6.2 million contract to supply its computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location system to Pierce Transit in Tacoma, Wash. The company will also provide Pierce Transit with a suite of real-time information and analytical tools that will assist in the day-to-day management of the 391-vehicle fleet of local, paratransit and demand-responsive bus services. In addition, Orbital will integrate wireless Internet connections to more than 40 mobile workstations in the vehicles of Pierce Transit's supervisors.
