Regional Transit Service (RTS), the bus system administered by the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) in Rochester, N.Y., reported a strong increase in ridership for three consecutive months.

RTS ridership in April 2007 rose 10.25 percent over April 2006, when RTS implemented a single fare structure. In addition, RTS experienced a 16.5 percent increase in ridership in May 2007 compared to May 2006.

Estimates for June 2007 show ridership to be 1,244,894, which is an approximately 5.16 percent increase over June 2006. Officials point to high fuel prices as a factor driving the demand for public transportation in the area.
