Transit and Parish officials announced Tuesday that Jefferson Parish, La.-based Jefferson Transit will begin using biodiesel fuel in their buses later this month.

The switch will start with system-wide use of a B2 biodiesel blend, with plans to eventually upgrade to a B5 biodiesel blend. The transit operation hopes to utilize the benefits of biodiesel to increase vehicle efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
