The Lewisville, Texas-based Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) responded to a call for aid and helped transport hundreds of Gulf Coast residents, who came to Denton County to escape the threats posed by Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike.

Following Hurricane Gustav, DCTA shuttled passengers from Camp Copass in Denton to Walmart to allow the families an opportunity to purchase items not provided by the Red Cross.

Additionally, DCTA’s Commuter Express coaches transported evacuees from the University of North Texas to Irving and the Dallas Convention Center. This was the first step in the evacuees’ journey back home.

The agency provided similar service following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
