BEIJING — Commuters in China’s capital city saw public transportation fares double overnight, reported China Topix.
The new fares for public transport in Beijing include a three yuan minimum price for a subway ride, which covers approximately 4 miles. This is raised from the previous flat-fare of two yuan that included unlimited transfers and no mileage limitations.
For Beijing bus riders, a six-mile trip will cost two yuan, and one yuan for every additional three miles. However, those commuters who are smart card users will benefit from a 50% discount, and student card users will receive a 75% discount. For the full story, click here.
