SACRAMENTO, Calif. — techwire reports that nine participating Sacramento area agencies began a soft launch of the Connect Transit “smart” card, giving public transit riders the ability to pay fares throughout the region using one form of payment.

The system, which was launched late last week after the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) became the first adopter in November, uses a plastic smart card with an embedded computer chip inside that can store cash value, passes, and discount fares.

Participating agencies include RT, e-tran, El Dorado Transit, Folsom Stage Line, Placer County Transit, Roseville Transit, South County Transit Link, Yolobus, and Yuba-Sutter Transit. For the full story, click here.
