Pa. transit agency to purchase 12 paratransit vehicles

The Westmoreland County Transit Authority's $600,000 state grant will be used to buy the seven-seat minibuses that can hold up to two wheelchairs. The vehicles will be given to private transportation companies that serve as contractors for the paratransit system.

San Francisco passes new tour bus law

The city’s Board of Supervisors unanimously gave preliminary approval to an ordinance requiring most tour bus operators to employ a second, non-driving guide to provide commentary. The new law follows the fatal collision in October in a crosswalk in front of San Francisco City Hall.

Alstom Citadis tram technology debuts in China

The Songjiang district plans to build six tramway lines by 2020. The 30 Citadis trams will run on the two first lines, T1 and T2, that will cover a total distance of 31 kilometers and include 42 stations. These two lines are expected to be in operation by 2017 and transport 173,000 persons per day. In total, the city of Shanghai plans to build 800 km of tramway network by 2020[2].

Proterra to expand manufacturing of electric buses to California

The proposed facility, to be located in the San Gabriel Valley, is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2015 and will create more than 70 new local jobs. Additionally, the company announced that Foothill Transit, the primary public transit provider of the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys, has placed its fourth order in just five years for Proterra’s EV buses.
