Tucson, U. of Arizona partner on streetcar safety

The city’s public relations team for the streetcar created an online safety campaign that provides videos and tips on how to safely maneuver along the corridor. Meanwhile, the university is working with the city to continue classes to teach bicyclists how to bike safely along the tracks.

Txt-a-Tip will follow similar response procedures that are in place when a report is called into the Amtrak Police 800 number. Passengers can now simply report suspected criminal or suspicious activity by sending a text to APD11 from a smartphone or to 27311 from a standard cell phone.

VIA San Antonio app honored with regional award

Won the South West Transit Association’s Hit the Spot award for its launch of a mobile application for smartphones earlier this year. “Go via VIA,” which provides riders with access to core tools, such as real-time bus arrival information and trip planning, won first place in the Social Media category.

New OCTA Web page offers transit apps

The OCTA App Center showcases mobile and web apps packed with information about the transit system, making it easier for new and existing customers to determine schedules and plan trips. The page currently displays 15 free and paid apps for both Android and Apple iPhone.

Helsinki launches custom bus service app

Kutsuplus gives riders more flexibility than traditional transit at a price that’s more affordable than a taxi. Through an app, the service lets users register and set up a trip 'wallet,' then choose pick up and destination spots based on city addresses or pre-existing stops.
