Will let riders track Cat Tran shuttle routes beginning this fall. Additionally, the names of the routes will change from a color-coded system to identifying the area of campus the shuttle will travel.
After officials approved a $40 annual transportation fee increase, students at SUNY Broome Community College will receive a year-round bus pass for Broome County Transit. The transportation fee, which is now $90, also goes toward security and maintenance of campus parking lots.
The shuttle's new service option, which will provide a continuously running bus capable of carrying about 15 passengers along a set route stretching between the Northwest campus and a local retail district, grew out of passenger complaints about long wait times and overcrowded vans.
The plan is in its early stages, with rough drafts of potential bus routes and determining optimal bus ride lengths and the best bus stops being developed.
Safety features include three-point passenger seat belts, Electronic Stability Control, a fire suppression system and air-pressure tire monitoring.
The service, called Connector Alliance, improves connections between communities in adjacent counties and has resulted in the implementation of a new visitor pass program this summer.
