S.F. Muni light rail posts 50% on-time performance

The low number is caused by aging trains, run-down tracks, outdated scheduling and few reserve vehicles to deploy when rail vehicles break down. The agency plans to update its scheduling, hire more supervisors and put out a bid next year for a new batch of light rail vehicles, which could be in service by 2017.

Chicago transit, rail union spar over seniority rules

Several hundred Chicago Transit Authority rail union employees protested alleged violations in a four-year labor agreement. The workers claimed that management is violating seniority rules that let customer service employees at rail stations select their work hours. The agency said it is following the agreement and scheduling employees to best serve riders at its busiest stations.

SEPTA team wins APTA Rail Roadeo

The Rail Transit Team Achievement Award is given to the system with the highest rail operator and maintainer team combined score. The winning team members were Rob Brooks, Don Chakov, Nicholas Baldassarre, Adrian Mapp and Sharon Mapp.

President/CEO Joyce Rose told attendees of the APTA 2013 Rail Conference that with record-breaking ridership on the nation’s rail transit systems, there’s an increased risk of safety incidents involving drivers and pedestrians at rail crossings, along mixed-used rights of way and for pedestrians.
