Drivers will be able to charge their vehicles for a nominal fee at five Metro park and ride stations beginning this month.

Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority is running a pilot project with fully electric vehicles and wireless charging pads from AMP Electric Vehicles and Momentum Dynamics Corp. The agency is the first in the U.S. to deploy electric paratransit vehicles, according to AMP Electric Vehicles.

The patented and proprietary designs for hybrid and all-electric buses significantly reduce emissions and provide lower total life-cycle operational costs, according to the company.

All operations, including manufacturing, sales and warranty support, will continue to operate as usual during the reorganization, company officials said.
