D.C. Metro to replace track circuits

The agency will invest $10 million in beginning to replace approximately 400 Red Line track circuits, enabling it to run its trains in automatic mode. All 1,730 track circuits are slated for eventual replacement, at an estimated cost of $60.5 million.

Will provide the diagnostic, monitoring, assistance and on-site maintenance of the onboard ERTMS level 2 equipments for 31 Trenitalia trains. Plans to provide electrification for Granada, Spain’s tramway system.

The project will entail the application of technology including ERTMS/ETCS and GSM-R, all of which Ansaldo STS has already supplied or is currently supplying in other countries, including Italy, Spain and Turkey.

This project, part of the LIRR East Side Access program, replaces the current vital relay-based interlocking control system with a MicroLok II vital microprocessor-based system.

Ansaldo STS receives Taipei Metro order

The contract should be signed by Ansaldo STS, AnsaldoBreda and DORTS in early April, with work expected to begin by the end of 2015.
