Supporters of a 17.3-mile route in the Orange-Durham transit plan said it is critical to concentrating economic and residential growth. Opposition claims only 4.3 miles will serve southern Chapel Hill and there’s no plan for a direct link to Research Triangle Park.

A transit planning committee endorsed a bus and rail plan to be financed in part by a half-cent sales tax increase in Durham and Orange counties. However, voters already face separate proposals for a quarter-cent increase in their sales tax.
