Steve Spade, director of Chapel Hill Transit for the past six years, is leaving to take a position as transit director for Wichita Transit. During his leadership, the agency acquired its first hybrid and articulated buses and created a collaborative relationship with community partners.

As part of the town’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day week-long celebration for town employees, Chapel Hill Transit workers will reenact the historic day when Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery City bus in Alabama on Dec. 1, 1955.

The student transit fee covers student contribution to the Chapel Hill Transit contract, Triangle Transit, P2P and Safe Ride funding, and is currently $113.50 a year per student.

This system will allow for the seamless planning of trips using public transportation in the Triangle region. Riders will have a real-time view of buses in route on a detailed online map.

High-seniority Chapel Hill Transit drivers said that their issues with a lack of sufficient time to take restroom and lunch breaks have not been adequately answered. Transit director says drivers are able to stop along the route at the authorized restroom stops.
