The order for 74, 40-foot buses, with an option for 30 additional buses, is a result of Daimler Buses North America’s decision, announced on April 25, to exit production of heavy duty transit buses for the U.S. and Canadian markets.

The manufacturer will supply 135 40-foot CNG heavy-duty transit buses with options for up to an additional 340 CNG buses.

Two different models will run on the same routes in rotation with agency's 2010 clean air diesel and diesel-electric hybrid buses. One bus was manufactured by NABI Inc. for L.A. Metro; the other was built by New Flyer for Valley Metro in Phoenix.

Four transit agencies received Orion VII CNG buses. Vehicles feature a low-floor design that optimizes safety and comfort and a frame designed specifically for the extra weight of the CNG fuel tanks.
