Aims to make it easier for entities interested in developing real estate to receive low-interest loans, if the projects are within proximity — defined in most cases as within a half-mile — of transit lines.

DOT, HUD, EPA partner for housing, transport goals

Earlier this year, HUD and DOT announced an unprecedented agreement to implement joint housing and transportation initiatives. With EPA joining the partnership, the three agencies will work together to ensure that these housing and transportation goals are met while simultaneously protecting the environment, promoting equitable development and helping to address the challenges of climate change.

Agencies jointly funded a study by Reconnecting America's Center for Transit-Oriented Development (CTOD) in 2007 that showed that cost of living was dependent on the costs of housing and transportation combined.
