Supervisors are seeking a more in-depth review than an audit earlier this year, according to a board member.

The Milwaukee County Transit System signed a contract for 90 Xcelsior XD40 buses and contains a firm order of 55 buses with options for an additional 35 buses.

Transit Express provides approximately 60% of MCTS’ paratransit services, with First Transit providing the rest. The company would lay off employees if contract isn't extended.

Officials at both the transit agency and university hope the app could boost ridership.

The Milwaukee County Transit System is seeking board permission to create a route connecting Milwaukee Area Technical College campuses to downtown. It would be the first new county bus route in four years.

New legislation would add regional transit authorities. However, a revised bill submitted by democrats would establish a new Milwaukee County transit authority, funded by a 0.5% sales tax that could take over the Milwaukee County Transit System.

Recently unveiled legislation proposes a sales tax of up to a half-cent, to fund a transit authority that would take over the bus system and restore previously cut service.

Orders are from both current and new customers and are for a variety of vehicle configurations and propulsion systems, including 35-, 40- and 60-foot buses with clean diesel, diesel-electric hybrid, CNG and LNG.
