The one-mile-long monorail line, which was built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair to provide a crucial link between the fairgrounds and the amenities downtown, carried 1.9 million passengers in 2011.

It will generate 250 new jobs directly dedicated to railway vehicle production, including aluminum car body, bogie and final assembly activities. In addition, approximately 500 indirect jobs will be created based on increased activity in Bombardier's local supplier base.

The high-capacity MOVIA metro, the highly energy-efficient FLEXITY 2 light rail vehicles and the CITYFLO 650 communication-based train control system are also being exhibited.

Options ranged in price from tens of millions of dollars to hundreds of millions of dollars.

Monorail officials said last month that they had three options: Negotiate an agreement with bondholders without filing for bankruptcy; file for bankruptcy with the bondholders’ blessing; or file without a new agreement in place.

At about 2 a.m. on July 5th, a Walt Disney World monorail train, designated the Pink train, backed into another monorail train, designated the Purple train, near the Ticket and Transportation Center monorail station. The operator of the Purple train was fatally injured; the six passengers on that train were treated at the scene.
