Alstom opens train maintenance facility in the U.K.

As a result of a $21.7-million investment from Network Rail, the U.K. railway infrastructure operator, the Edge Hill site in Liverpool is now able to receive up to eight high-speed tilting Pendolino trains for maintenance every night, rather than the five it formerly handled.

U.K. rail to test recycled plastic ties

Network Rail’s trial will use approximately 20 tons of recycled waste material to form the new ties, which will replace timber ties along some of the rural lines on the network.
