Nippon Sharyo opens first U.S. railcar factory

The new factory, based in Rochelle, Ill., will employ 250 workers by the end of next year and create additional jobs throughout the company’s American supply-chain. Nippon Sharyo has already identified more than 200 potential suppliers and vendors in the Midwest region alone.

VRE taps Sumitomo for bi-level railcars

The base order is to supply eight cars at a contract price of $21 million and is scheduled to be delivered in 2014. The contract includes an option for VRE to purchase up to an additional 42 cars.

Toronto's Metrolinx to add 6 DMUs

The contract price is $22 million for six DMUs and will be for the middle flat-nosed "C-Car", which connects both ends of the slanted nose "A-Cars."

Westcode tapped for Metrolinx HVAC systems

The up to 36 systems — 24 in base order — will feature state-of-the-art microprocessor controls and be designed and manufactured at Westcode's West Chester, Pa facility.

Metrolinx taps Sumitomo for DMUs

The vehicles are scheduled for delivery in 2014 and will be the first vehicle delivery to Canada for the Sumitomo Corp. of America/ Nippon Sharyo team.

Sumitomo, Nippon Sharyo win N. Calif. contract

The estimated $57M contract for 18 DMUs includes options for Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit District and its partner agencies to purchase up to 146 cars. The delivery of 18 DMUs is scheduled from the end of 2013 through the middle of 2014.
