Light rail will be extended 11 miles from downtown Phoenix, through the State Capitol area.This is Metro’s first freeway corridor project, providing the growing West Valley with a higher-capacity and more efficient transit option by 2023.

Phoenix Metro averaged 45,867 daily weekday riders in October; 36,725 daily riders on Saturdays; and 22,376 on Sundays. The Saturday average is also the highest on record.

Bus company negotiators and union drivers will resume talks in an attempt to avert a strike. Nearly all of the system’s drivers voted to reject a labor contract proposal and authorize a possible walk out, due to a dispute over wages, health insurance and sick leave.

Veolia will now be responsible for all aspects of service operations for 353 buses, including daily street operations, passenger care, safety, vehicle cleanliness and maintenance, and on-time performance.
