Alternative fuel use gaining traction in transit bus sector

Will represent more than 50 percent of the 64,000 total transit buses that will be delivered worldwide by 2015, up from 28 percent of total bus deliveries in 2010.

Report: Cleaner mass transit focus will spur alt-fuel's growth

Worldwide deliveries of hybrid buses is forecast to nearly triple from 5,514 vehicles in 2010 to 16,328 units in 2016. During the same period, natural gas bus deliveries will increase 61 percent to 15,937 vehicles.

Pike Research forecasts that the U.S. will remain the largest singular market for hybrid trucks and buses between now and 2015, followed closely by China.
