Amtrak, Calif. partner on HSR

Partnership advances each of their respective HSR programs, and could create efficiencies by ordering trains of similar specifications and develop a U.S. standard for HSR train equipment that can be manufactured and supplied domestically and produced for the rest of the world. An RFP could be issued by September, 2013 with an order placed during 2014.

U.S. DOT issues $551M RFPs for American-made railcars

For manufacture of approximately 130 new bi-level passenger cars. Comes from a multi-state effort to jointly purchase standardized rail equipment to be used on Amtrak’s intercity routes in California, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Missouri. Funding is being provided by the FRA’s High-Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail Program.

Calif. high-speed group to qualify design-build contractors

Initial construction in the Central Valley will begin next fall, upon completion of the environmental process. With an estimated value of $1.5 billion to $2 billion, this large design-build construction contract will be placed before the end of 2012.

L.A. Metro issues RFP for light rail extension

The $450 million-plus design-build-finance project will involve final design, construction and financing of 11.5-miles of track, utilities, crossings and systems, as well as six stations, multiple bridges and a 25 acre-plus light rail maintenance facility.
