Riverside Transit Agency’s travel training program is effectively steering a growing number of customers away from its costly Dial-A-Ride service as well as saving the agency money along the way.

Last March, the Riverside County District Attorney’s office filed a criminal complaint against Coach Operator George Bateman and issued an arrest warrant, charging him with one felony count of insurance fraud.

The Go-Pass and U-Pass programs experienced more than 1.3 million student boardings this fiscal year. To celebrate, the agency is giving away iPads to a student from Riverside City College and another from Moreno Valley College.

Funds are provided through the FTA’s FY2012 Clean Fuels Grant Program.

About 4% of the agency's riders use Dial-A-Ride, but the service consumes 18% of the agency’s budget.

As part of the campaign, posts at selected bus stops are crowned with a solar panel that charges a battery that powers the light-emitting diode, or LED, fixtures.

Eighty-five percent of voting students district-wide approved an initiative that authorized Mt. San Jacinto College's board of trustees to implement a $6 fee per semester to subsidize the Go-Pass program, which was slated to end in August when current funding expires.
