Possible new projects include enabling all residents to get to two transit routes within a quarter-mile of where they live or work, and having transit operation hours mirror the times people travel to and from work. UTA is also working on a distance-based fare system.

Salt Lake City, located in a conservative state, is the only city in the country currently building light rail, bus rapid transit, streetcars and commuter rail simultaneously. The lesson that other cities can learn from the city is to design a transit plan based on what people value about where they live.

The additional lines will substantially increase public transit service to the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. Beginning in October, UTA will begin an extensive public education and outreach effort to engage the public in the process of integrating the new rail service into the existing bus system.
