Kansas transit seeks sales tax to maintain system

Wichita Transit is proposing a quarter-cent sales tax to help mend its financially ailing bus system, which is carrying a $500,000 deficit for 2012.

Deficit is a result of ridership and sales tax revenue declines. Agency will look at fare and parking increases, service reductions and cutting expenses. Also asking its labor unions and managers to suggest cost savings.
