BOSTON — MBTA commuter rail riders can expect some weekend closures beginning next spring as the agency embarks on a $459 million project to install positive train control (PTC), The Telegram reports.

The agency plans to conduct installation work on two lines at a time beginning on the southern section of the system, beginning in April 2017. Ansaldo STS was awarded a $338 million contract for installing the technology last year, which MBTA plans to make operational by Dec. 31, 2020.

Currently, the agency’s line connecting with Providence, R.I., which connects with Amtrak’s Acela service, is the only one with PTC. For the full story, click here.
