MTR-Hong Kong to operate Swedish metro system

Hong Kong-based MTR has won a contract to operate the Stockholm Metro (SL).

MTR will have overall responsibility for the Stockholm Metro operations for a minimum of eight years, with a possible extension for an additional six years.

The agreement stipulates that SL will pay MTR a fixed price of $300 million annually. The agreement also contains financial incentives covering several areas, such as traffic operations, cleaning, punctuality, and customer satisfaction. The maximum amount of financial incentives is $17.6 million annually.

In addition to the actual traffic operations, the assignment also includes the following main service areas: vehicle maintenance, customer service, cleaning and snow clearance. SL will continue to own the track and station infrastructure and the maintenance responsibility for those assets.
