INX Inc. was awarded the New Mexico Department of Transportation (DOT) RailRunner train wireless system contract for technology infrastructure to provide free public high-speed wireless service to commuters.

Under the terms of the 2.7 million contract, INX will implement, manage and support the Rail Runner Wireless System.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) will offer RailRunner passengers free public wireless Internet access in all trains and stations. The wireless network will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 simultaneous users and include fast access to data-intensive applications, such as emergency phones, video displays in the trains and stations, and video surveillance equipment, immediately upon installation.

The entire project is estimated to take 120 days, beginning Feb. 19, 2009.
