Beginning March 1, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) will go forward with a fare increase for its bus services.
Regular fares will increase 25 cents to $1.50, with reduced fares for eligible seniors, youths and persons with disabilities with a Metro reduced farecard or Medicare card costing 75 cents.
“People are often surprised to learn that passenger fares represent just 17 percent of the total revenue,” said Mark Huffer, KCATA’s GM. “With the lack of growth in KCATA’s funding sources, it’s important that passenger revenues remain at that 17 percent level.”
Two-hour transfers and day passes will not be impacted by the increases.
