Senate to vote on stimulus Tuesday

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on President Barack Obama’s stimulus package on Tuesday.

The bill is slightly different from the bill that passed the House at the end of January, adding $2 billion for high-speed rail and $3.1 billion for rail overall. The Senate version of the bill also adds more money for Transit Formula Funds -- $8.4 billion compared to the $7.5 billion House bill – and includes $5.5 billion in Discretionary Grant funds.

Cuts that the Senate bill makes from the House bill include $2 billion for Fixed Guideway Modernization and $2.5 billion for New Starts, making the total sum for transit $8.4 billion, not including the $5.5 billion in Discretionary Grants, compared to the $12 billion House bill.
