The T's board approves TRE fare increase

The board of directors of The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) approved an increase in fares for the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), to take effect on September 14.

There will be no fare increase for The T's local bus, express bus or mobility impaired services.

TRE fares will be the same as DART's in order to maintain consistency across the jointly owned commuter rail corridor. One-zone single-ride TRE fares will increase $1 and premium two-zone single-ride TRE fares will increase $1.25.  The TRE day pass, weekly pass and monthly pass also will increase.

"The new fares will align rates more appropriately with the more expensive cost of providing commuter rail service," said The T President Dick Ruddell. "Our current fare for the Trinity Railway Express has been considerably below the national average for commuter rail, and this increase will bring it up to the average level," Ruddell said.

The increased fares for the TRE are expected to generate additional revenue of $190,000 for The T to help offset the higher expense of its operation.
