N.Y. MTA, Clever Devices demo SmartBus technology

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) are employing the latest Clever Devices SmartBus technology to improve service along 34th Street in Manhattan.

Clever Devices is demonstrating their SmartBus technology on 30 MTA buses running on the M34 and M16 routes. SmartBus provides next stop announcements on vehicles as well as real-time arrival information at eight bus shelters.

The company’s SmartBus technology was originally acquired as part of the MTA’s purchase of 850 new hybrid, clean-air buses and is currently being used to improve bus reliability, service and efficiency. The technology was expanded to include next stop announcements and real-time arrival information to make bus transit more accessible and appealing.
