Ansaldo STS USA wins $9.3M Brazilian contract

Sao Paulo, Brazil's Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) awarded Ansaldo STS, through its subsidiary Ansaldo STS USA, a contract in the amount of $9.3 million to supply an automatic train operation (ATO) upgrade for Lines 7, 9 and 12 of its transit network.

Ansaldo STS USA was awarded a contract in 2008 to upgrade the dispatch office and wayside system of CPTM's Lines 7 and 12. This most recent contract outlines a 24 month project duration in which the existing wayside communications will be upgraded using data radios and transponders. The project will add the ATO control functions to the new train control system that is being installed.

The contract also requires Ansaldo STS USA to install the wayside ATO functionality on Line 9 to supplement the existing dispatch office. The goal upon completion is for interoperability along all three lines.

Brazil-based Trends Engenharia e Infraestrutura will supply the material and perform the installation of Ansaldo STS USA's wayside design.
