With flu season underway, MARTA is asking customers and employees to join with the agency in taking extra precautions to prevent against the spread of the seasonal and H1N1 flu viruses.

MARTA urges its customers and employees to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended personal precautions to prevent spread of the virus. Those steps include washing their hands frequently, avoiding touching their eyes, nose or mouth, coughing and sneezing into their elbow, and if they are sick, staying home to limit contact with others.

Consistent with the CDC guidelines, MARTA maintains a robust cleaning regimen using an EPA approved disinfectant within buses, mobility vans, trains and rail stations.

"MARTA is committed to remaining vigilant and doing our part to prevent the spread of the seasonal and H1N1 flu viruses," said MARTA GM/CEO Dr. Beverly A. Scott. "With the high volume of people who travel through our system each day, we're taking this opportunity with flu season underway to remind our customers and employees about the importance of following CDC recommended precautions,"

Currently, there are no transportation related restrictions and federal officials have confirmed that at this time public transportation is no more or less safe than any other public place.
