Md.'s sub system launches credit card option

The Maryland Transit Administration's (MTA) Metro Subway ticket vending machines now accept credit cards, enabling customers to use major cards including Master Card, Visa, American Express and Discover to purchase fares and passes.

"The MTA is continuing to make public transportation more convenient for our riders," said Administrator Ralign Wells. "Credit card acceptance reflects our commitment to customer service."

Over the next 90 days ticket vending machines at light rail stops will also be upgraded to accept credit cards. Credit card acceptance is part of a comprehensive program to make the payment of transit fares faster and easier for MTA riders. The program also includes a smart card-based fare payment system, which is scheduled to be implemented by fall 2010.
