Daimler's Setra to offer exclusive engine package

On Tuesday, Daimler Buses North America (DBNA) announced that the Setra TopClass S 417 motorcoach will offer an exclusive engine package to the market in 2010 — the Mercedes-Benz OM 471engine with BlueTec technology.

 

Setra will be the first motorcoach in the market to offer the Mercedes-Benz engine. The Setra TopClass S 417 with Mercedes-Benz engine will be officially unveiled at the 2010 UMA Motorcoach Expo in Las Vegas.

 

The new engine is based on a world platform and shares the design of the Detroit Diesel DD 13 engine. What is unique for the North American market is Daimler’s BlueTec technology. This exclusive aftertreatment system is designed by Daimler and is found only in Daimler products with Daimler engines. The Mercedes-Benz powered technology, coupled with the BlueTec diesel air purification system that addresses the EPA 2010 environmental regulations, allows Setra a level of differentiation in the North American market, according to DBNA officials.

 

Detroit Diesel will service all engines in Setra coaches, including the new Mercedes-Benz OM 471 engine with BlueTec. Detroit Diesel offers 800 service center locations in North America and eight national parts distribution centers.
