AECOM Technology Corp. a provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients worldwide, announced on Thursday that it has won a design-services contract from MTR Corp. Limited, the owner-operator of the Hong Kong MTR metro system, as part of the Hong Kong Shatin to Central Link rail project.

AECOM’s work under the contract will include designs for a new interchange station called “Diamond Hill,” a semi-underground train-stabling facility, the upgrade of an existing rail depot and an extensive footbridge network.

Once complete, Diamond Hill is expected to become one of the busiest interchange stations in the city, accommodating nearly 47,000 people daily during the peak hour of the morning commute.

The Shatin to Central Link project will provide a new rail link between Hong Kong’s New Territories and its central business district. It will pass through the heart of Hong Kong’s densely populated Kowloon region as well as the former Kai Tak Airport, which is undergoing a major revitalization as a mixed-use development. The Diamond Hill station will be on the link’s East West Corridor, which will join two already-operational railways to form a 34-mile metro rail line.
