TTA awards First Transit employee

The Texas Transit Association named Norma Zamora, GM of the Brownsville (Texas) Urban System (BUS), the state's Outstanding General Manager of the year. This recognition is given based on an individual's outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry.

Since 1993, Zamora has been active in the transportation industry. She began management of the BUS in 1998 and currently oversees 84 employees and the operations of 22 fixed-route buses and 11 paratransit buses. She is responsible for the planning and construction of an international multimodal facility to assist in the expansion of bus service in the area. Zamora is also responsible for the management of grant funding for her city's public transportation system.

"I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to make a positive impact in my community," Zamora said. "I enjoy my job, and that is what keeps me striving to influence the public transportation industry. I have a great team that has worked just as hard, and it is because of them that this recognition was achievable."

Zamora attended Texas A& I University - Kingsville where she received a bachelor's degree in accounting. She has been with First Transit, which operates the BUS service, for 17 years.
