The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Police Force is launching an MTA Police Cadet program, offering qualified men and women between the ages of 18 to 20 years old a chance to experience a career in law enforcement.
"This new program is an excellent way to reach out and involve the youth of our community and attract quality law enforcement officers for the future," says MTA Administrator Ralign T. Wells. "It is also an opportunity for young people to earn while they learn and position themselves for a full-time career in law enforcement."
The new one-year program offers cadets classroom and on-the-job training as well as mentoring by MTA Police officers. Cadets will also receive a paycheck and other benefits as they advance toward the possibility of becoming a full-time MTA police officer at the age of 21.
The MTA Police Force is made up of sworn officers and civilian employees, dedicated to providing law enforcement to the State of Maryland. The MTA Police Force is multi-jurisdictional, as it patrols Baltimore and the surrounding counties to maintain a safe transit system.
