First Transit to manage Durham, N.C. fixed-route

The City of Durham announced that First Transit Inc. will manage the fixed-route operations for the Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA). DATA employs 155 employees and operates 72 transit vehicles, transporting 4.9 million passengers annually.

First Transit also operates and manages the city's paratransit service with 54-vehicles, transporting more than 252,000 passengers annually.

This new contract, along with the recently renewed paratransit contract, will take effect Oct. 1, extending First Transit's 14-year relationship with the City of Durham.
