Video: L.A.'s Foothill Transit rolls out Proterra electric bus

[IMAGE]Foothill-Ecoliner-full-2.jpg[/IMAGE]As METRO previously reported here, Foothill Transit in West Covina, Calif., put a Proterra battery-electric transit bus into service Sept. 3, representing the vehicle's first major deployment. The EcoRide BE35 zero-emission, fast-charge battery-electric transit bus helps Foothill Transit in its goal of establishing a full fleet of clean-fueled vehicles by 2011.

Branded as the "Ecoliner" and paid for by stimulus funds, the Proterra bus features lithium titanate batteries from Altairnano, Wired reports. The Ecoliner's lithium titanate batteries can propel the bus for three hours after a 10-minute rapid charge.
