HANFORD, Calif. — Rail officials are hoping to get the first leg of California’s high-speed rail project under way, bringing federally funded construction jobs, and drawing the region closer to state population centers, Los Angeles Times reports. However, some rural Central Valley communities are lobbying to steer the route around their towns, citing noise, vibration, aesthetics and loss of existing businesses.
