Fed Highway, Transit subcommittee leaders named

U.S. Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL), the Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced that chairmen John J. Duncan Jr. (R-TN) and Richard Hanna (R-NY) will serve as chairman and vice chair, respectively, on the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit for the 112th Congress, last week.

Meanwhile, Bill Shuster (R-PA) will serve as chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, with Tom Reed (R-NY) serving as vice chair.

Additionally, U.S. Representative and Democratic Leader of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) announced that Peter A. DeFazio (OR) will serve as Ranking Democratic Member of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, while Corrine Brown (FL) serves in the same capacity on the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has broad jurisdiction over the nation's highways, railways, airports, seaports, bus lines and pipelines, as well as the Economic Development Administration, Appalachian Regional Commission, Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other crucial economic development programs.
