Maryland U. student gov. backs light rail line

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — For the fourth straight year, the University of Maryland Student Government Association is supporting a Campus Drive alignment for the planned Purple Line light rail line, according to the Diamondback.

The proposed $1.6 billion state transportation has been debated at the university for years, with transit planners and many students arguing in favor of Campus Drive and many administrators requesting more peripheral routes through or under the campus.

The Purple Line is scheduled to begin construction in 2013 or 2014 if the project can secure enough state and federal funding; construction would take three to five years. For the full story, click here.
